Winter League
Dates
From the last of the Turkey shoot-out competition on the 22nd October 2011 until the first summer competition on the 31st March 2012 there is a 22 week period for our Winter Golf Season.
The Winter League
There will be four separate Order of Merit competitions running through-out the Winter League, with the leader (as defined below) of each Order of Merit at the end of February progressing to a knock-out matchplay competition to decide the winner of the Winter League Cup.
Entry
Entry into the Winter League will be £5; this does NOT include the Winter League Social.
Members are asked to put the entrance fee into the envelopes provided, write their name clearly on the outside of the envelope and place into the Match & Handicap slot of the cabinet.
Closing Date for entries will be Sunday 9th October 2011.
Saturday Competition
Each week the Saturday Competition will be played over two 9 hole courses as directed by the Match & Handicap committee, although this will be dependant on the number of playable holes.
Every Member will be assigned a Group i.e. Group A or Group B and each Group will have their own start sheet. Group A will play course A the first week, course B the second week and then back to course A for week three and so on. Group B will play course B the first week, course A the second week and then back to course B for week three and so on.
The Match & Handicap committee will try and ensure everyone plays the same number of rounds over each course.
In the event of holes being closed members must be prepared for delays as the Match & Handicap committee tries their best to enable every member to complete their round.
Each week vouchers will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in two sections (handicaps to 14 and 15 to 28) for each separate start sheet/course.
There will also be a separate Order of Merit competition for each start sheet, with points being awarded each week for the top 25 in each division. (Order of Merit points will not be awarded over the Christmas weekend)
At the end of February vouchers will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the Saturday Order of Merit Competitions. With the members placed 1st progressing to the matchplay competition to decide the winner of the Winter League Cup.
Sunday Competition
The Sunday Sweep will continue through-out the winter months and will be played over the number of playable holes on the course as directed by the Golf Centre.
In addition to the normal sweep prizes, Order of Merit points will be awarded for the top 15 places.
At the end of February there will be vouchers for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed members who do not have a Saturday tee time in the Order of Merit Competition. With the member placed 1st progressing to the matchplay competition to decide the winner of the Winter League Cup.
Wednesday /5 Day Members Competition
Each Wednesday there will be a sweep competition held for over the number of playable holes on the course as directed by the Golf Centre.
In addition to the normal sweep prizes, Order of Merit points will be awarded for the top 10 places.
At the end of February there will be vouchers for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed 5 Day members in the Order of Merit Competition. With the member placed 1st progressing to the matchplay competition to decide the winner of the Winter League Cup.
Overall Winner / Matchplay Competition
At the end of February the draw for the Matchplay competition will be made and the final has to be completed before the Winter League Social (date to be confirmed nearer the time)
If necessary a player’s handicap will be reduced proportionally to the number of holes being played and then there will be a full handicap allowance for each match.
Members are asked to try and arrange the match over the full course (i.e. 18 holes)
March 2012
The intention is to run weekly stableford competitions until the start of the summer competitions. Initially the competitions will be over a shorter number of holes with the possibility of extending this to 18 nearer the end of the month.
Saturday Tee Times
A start sheet will be in operation for each course and members are not advised to switch between start sheets.
Tee Times will be allocated based on the current summer start sheet with Group 1 being assigned to Group A and Group 2 being assigned to Group B and so on. Once the start sheets are produced any problems with tee times should be submitted in writing to Keith Hanna before the start of the Winter League.
The Match & Handicap Committee would like to remind everyone they are still required to cancel their Saturday tee time before 5:30pm on the Friday night. Failure to remove your name for three weeks in a row will result in you losing your tee time.
Delayed Starts / Hole Closures
Match & Handicap committee will make a decision on how the competition will be played with the emphasis on enabling everyone to complete their round with the minimal amount of delay to start times. If the Winter League competition is ‘cancelled’ but course is playable the club will hold a sweep competition but there will be no Order of Merit points awarded.

Winter League Social
The Winter League Social will be held at the end of the Winter Season and will be open to all members. Further details will be announced nearer the time.
The Centre would prefer members to carry their bag during the Winter League but recognise this is not always possible so they would encourage members to keep trolleys off the fairway and use the paths.
