Beth Moore and Marie McAuley
will represent Greenacres at the Daily Mail Foursomes competition at
the Forest of Arden Championship Golf Course, Coventry, England from
the 21st -23rd October 2007.This competition
is in its 43rd year and is sponsored by the Daily Mail
newspaper group.
The two girls have played
their way through 7 knock-out rounds from March to September. The 7th
round was the All Ireland final and was played against Greenore Golf
Club at Greenore championship golf course. The match was very close
and only decided on the 19th hole where Beth sunk a 20
foot putt to win the match.
This win is a major triumph
for the pair who have been playing for only 4 years.
Marie said ...”We are
thrilled to have reached this final stage and anything more will be
a bonus when we go to England”
This is the first time
Greenacres ladies had entered a team. Barbara Jamison, lady captain
said…”We are all so proud of our 2 players especially when our
membership is so small. Their achievement is exceptional considering
the established clubs they have played and beaten, many of the
matches were played away from their home course. This success will
surely put Greenacres on the golfing map. Our course has improved
greatly since it was formed 11 years ago and our ladies success will
perhaps bring more new members to the club”. |
